Jammu: In a major crackdown on ticketless travel, the Northern Railways Jammu Division penalised over 11,000 passengers across various routes last month, collecting fines amounting to ₹67 lakh, officials said.

According to Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal, intensified ticket-checking drives and surprise inspections were carried out to prevent revenue loss and ensure adherence to travel regulations.

“To provide a comfortable travel experience and better services for genuine passengers, the ticket-checking staff conducted continuous checks on trains and at stations throughout October,” Singhal said.

He added that a total of 11,386 cases of ticketless and irregular travel were detected during the campaign, resulting in ₹67 lakh in penalties.

Meanwhile, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jammu, Vivek Kumar, conducted a detailed inspection of the Jammu–Katra rail section on Saturday to assess its operational readiness ahead of the winter season and evaluate critical infrastructure for future development.

During the inspection, the DRM examined railway tracks, signalling systems, tunnels, bridges, and stations along the 80-km stretch, including Bajalta, Sangar, Manwal, and Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan stations.

“Passenger safety remains our top priority. This inspection is part of a routine process to ensure the strength, reliability, and efficiency of our infrastructure,” Singhal said.
