In a significant step toward strengthening India’s maritime communication network, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the Indian Navy’s GSAT-7R (CMS-03) communication satellite on Sunday from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

Developed indigenously, GSAT-7R will be the Navy’s most advanced communication satellite yet, designed to enhance space-based communications and maritime domain awareness.

Weighing approximately 4,400 kilograms, the satellite is India’s heaviest communication platform. It features cutting-edge, homegrown technologies developed to meet the Navy’s strategic and operational needs under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative.

GSAT-7R is engineered to deliver secure, high-capacity telecommunication coverage across the Indian Ocean Region. Equipped with advanced transponders, it will enable voice, data, and video communication across multiple frequency bands, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity between naval ships, submarines, aircraft, and Maritime Operations Centres.

Once commissioned, the satellite will greatly enhance the Indian Navy’s real-time situational awareness, coordination, and operational efficiency across its vast maritime domain.
