Director Agriculture inspects departmental stall at Jhiri Mela 2025

JAMMU: Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Jammu, Anil Gupta, today visited and inspected the Department’s display stall established at the historic 10-day Jhiri Mela, which commenced today.

During his visit, Anil Gupta took a detailed round of the exhibition area and reviewed various displays highlighting government schemes, modern farming technologies, and innovative initiatives undertaken by the department for farmers’ welfare. He also interacted with officers, field functionaries, and departmental staff present at the venue.

The officials briefed the Director about thematic exhibits focusing on organic and natural farming, GI-tagged products, mushroom cultivation, integrated pest management, bee keeping, protected cultivation, soil health management, and advanced agricultural machinery—key components under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) and Kisan Khidmat Ghar (KKG).

Speaking on the occasion, Anil Gupta underscored the significance of such exhibitions in raising awareness among farmers about the latest government programmes and technological advancements in agriculture. “Jhiri Mela is among the largest rural congregations in the region, offering an excellent platform for direct engagement with farmers. Through these exhibitions, we aim to promote sustainable agricultural practices and encourage the adoption of scientific methods to boost productivity and profitability,” he said.

He directed the officers to ensure that the departmental stall remains engaging, informative, and farmer-friendly throughout the mela. He further instructed them to organize interactive sessions, live demonstrations, and on-the-spot guidance for visiting farmers on soil testing, crop diversification, integrated farming systems, and various centrally sponsored schemes, including PM-Kisan, PM Fasal Bima Yojana, and Kisan Credit Card (KCC).

The Agriculture Department’s stall is expected to draw large crowds of farmers, students, and visitors throughout the mela, offering practical insights into modern agricultural practices and welfare schemes.

Prominent among those present were Joint Director (Extension) Sanjay Anand; Joint Director (SLUB/Farms) Aman Jyoti Sharma; Agriculture Chemist Vinod Kumar Sharma; Agronomist (VIS) Vikas Padha; Mushroom Development Officer Raghubir Pal Kochar; Assistant Entomologist Bharti Thusoo; Agriculture Research Engineer Firdous Ahmad Tak; DSCO Nirmal Parkash; Seed Analyst Gopal Krishan; Potato Development Officer Raj Singh; Chief Agriculture Officer Jammu Manohar Lal Sharma; SDAO Marh Khalid Hassan; Agriculture Extension Officers; and other departmental staff.
