Srinagar: National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday extended his congratulations to Zohran Mamdani for his emphatic victory in the New York City mayoral election.

In a statement issued by the party, Abdullah hailed Mamdani’s campaign as a “beacon of hope” in times of growing division, lauding his steadfast commitment to promoting unity in a diverse society.

“Zohran Mamdani’s remarkable victory is not just a personal achievement but a clarion call for collective progress,” the former chief minister said.

“His election is a powerful message of unity and compassion — a reminder that when we reject hatred and uphold humanity, we build bridges that stand the test of time,” he added.

Mamdani, a 34-year-old Indian-origin democratic socialist, scripted history by winning the fiercely contested New York City mayoral race, becoming the first South Asian, the youngest, and the first Muslim to lead the administration of the global financial capital.
