Hyderabad: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared director Rahul Ravindran’s much-anticipated romantic drama The Girlfriend, starring Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty, with a U/A certificate.
The announcement was made by Geetha Arts, the production house behind the film, which posted on social media:
“It is a U/A for #TheGirlfriend. Experience intense drama, relatable emotions, and stellar performances on the big screen. Grand Release Worldwide Tomorrow.”
The film, which has generated significant buzz among fans and cinephiles, is set for a worldwide release on November 7.
In the recently released trailer, Rashmika’s character Bhooma is seen asking her boyfriend Vikram (played by Dheekshith Shetty) for a break, clarifying that she means a complete separation. The narrative then rewinds to when Vikram first proposed to her, insisting on marriage, even as Bhooma seems uncertain about the relationship.
Actress Anu Emmanuel plays a pivotal role, questioning Bhooma’s happiness and pointing out that while she may be perfect for Vikram, he may not be right for her. The trailer paints Vikram as controlling, arrogant, and insecure, while Bhooma appears trapped in a toxic relationship she’s struggling to escape.
Rashmika Mandanna has expressed deep admiration for director Rahul Ravindran. In a heartfelt birthday message to him earlier, she wrote:
“You are too precious, my friend. I still can’t believe you’ve made a film like The Girlfriend. The emotional depth and kindness you carry flow through every frame.”
Written and directed by Rahul Ravindran, The Girlfriend features music by Hesham Abdul Wahab and cinematography by Krishnan Vasant.
