Kishtwar: Search Operation On To Track Down Hiding Terrorists
Jammu: Security forces have launched a massive cordon and search operation to track down two to three terrorists suspected to be hiding in a forested area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, officials said on Thursday.
The operation comes after an encounter broke out on Wednesday in the dense Chatru forest area, during which one jawan sustained injuries.
Sources said the terrorists involved in the encounter are believed to be Pakistani nationals.
“The search operation is continuing to locate the terrorists, though there has been no exchange of fire since Wednesday afternoon,” a senior security official said.
Drones, sniffer dogs, and additional reinforcements have been deployed to tighten the cordon around the suspected area, the official added. Security forces are maintaining strict surveillance in the mountainous district, which has witnessed a spate of militant activities in recent months.
Kishtwar has recorded six encounters over the past seven months as forces intensify their operations against Pakistan-based terrorists active in the region, which borders Doda and Udhampur districts.
