PATNA: Bihar recorded a provisional voter turnout of 64.46 per cent in the first phase of assembly elections held across 121 constituencies on Thursday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vinod Singh Gunjiyal said.
He said that 3.75 crore voters were eligible to cast their ballots in this phase, which featured 1,314 candidates. Polling was conducted at 45,341 booths, including 36,733 located in rural areas.
Gunjiyal added that polling remained largely peaceful, except for a few “minor scuffles” reported from Lakhisarai and Saran districts. “Voting began at 7 am and concluded at 6 pm amid tight security. Around 64.46 per cent voter turnout was recorded,” he said.
According to the CEO, 143 complaints were received during the day and resolved promptly. However, polling was boycotted in a few booths in Buxar, Fatuha, and Suryagarha.
Elections for the remaining 122 constituencies of the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be held on November 11, and counting of votes is scheduled for November 14.
