Inter College Table Tennis Tournament Showcases Sportsmanship and Talent at GCOE Jammu
JAMMU: The Inter College Men’s and Women’s Table Tennis Competition, organized under the aegis of Cluster University of Jammu, was successfully held at the Government College of Education (GCOE), Jammu. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from all five constituent colleges of the Cluster University — GGM Science College, SPMR College of Commerce, Government MAM College, PSPS Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, and GCOE Jammu.
The competition served as a vibrant platform for students to display their exceptional skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
The event began with a welcome address by Principal Dr. Jyoti Parihar, who appreciated the efforts of the Sports Committee for organizing the tournament and extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and participants.
Dean, School of Teacher Education, Dr. Zubair Kalees graced the occasion as Chief Guest and lauded the college’s efforts in fostering physical education and holistic student development. Dr. Jyoti Parihar was the Special Guest, while Director, Physical Education, Cluster University of Jammu, Dr. Vinod Bakshi attended as Guest of Honour.
Prominent attendees included Prof. Satish Sharma (HoD, Hindi), Ravi Kumar (Physical Director, Government SPMR College of Commerce), Kajal Premi (Physical Director, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar), Neelam (Assistant Physical Director, Government MAM College), and Dr. Shalini Sharma (Department of English, GGM Science College). Their presence added prestige and encouragement to the event.
The matches were officiated by Ajay Ratra, Table Tennis Coach, IIT Jammu, and Sakshi from Army Public School, Ratnuchak, ensuring fair and smooth conduct of games.
In the Men’s Singles category, Government SPMR College of Commerce clinched the title, while Government College of Education, Jammu finished runner-up. In the Women’s Singles category, GGM Science College emerged as the winner, followed by Government SPMR College of Commerce as runner-up.
Tejashwar Singh from SPMR College of Commerce and Bhumika Thakur from GGM Science College were adjudged Best Players in the Men’s and Women’s categories, respectively, for their outstanding performances.
The event was ably coordinated by Ramandeep Kralia, Physical Director, GCOE Jammu, whose meticulous planning ensured its smooth execution.
A Prize Distribution Ceremony marked the conclusion of the competition, where the winners and best players were felicitated by the dignitaries. The programme ended with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Shalini Rana, who expressed gratitude to all participants, officials, and faculty members for their support and contributions.
Faculty members including Dr. Rajinder Kour, Anuradha Choudhary, Balwan Singh, Dr. Ambica Sharma, and Dr. Sonam Gandotra also attended the event, motivating the students and appreciating the organizing team’s efforts.
