Div Com Kashmir reviews traffic management measures to decongest city roads

SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Multi-Disciplinary Committee on Traffic Management to review ongoing initiatives and explore new strategies for improving traffic flow and decongesting Srinagar’s roads.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Commissioner SMC, RTO Kashmir, Chief Engineer R&B, and senior officers from the Traffic Police and SSCL.

The Divisional Commissioner took a detailed review of the improvements achieved in downtown areas following the implementation of one-way traffic plans on select routes, which have resulted in a noticeable reduction in congestion.

The committee also discussed introducing colour-coded passes for mini-buses to restrict their operations within designated zones. Additionally, it was proposed to declare MA Road as a “No E-Rickshaw Zone” between Jahangir Chowk and Dalgate, permitting their movement only along Residency Road. To prevent overcrowding on certain routes, a cap on the number of E-Rickshaws was also suggested.

Progress on the Smart Parking Management System, being developed at three major city locations, was reviewed along with plans to establish E-Rickshaw charging stations at Hazratbal, Zoonimar, and Batamaloo.

The meeting also discussed the development of new surface parking facilities at JVC, Children’s Hospital, Karan Nagar, Sanatnagar, Batamaloo, and Harwan.

Several other issues, including HLC matters, SSCL projects, and RTA-related concerns, were deliberated upon. The Divisional Commissioner issued specific directions to departments for expeditious action and timely resolution.
