Queensland [Australia]: India’s unbeaten T20I series streak under head coach Gautam Gambhir stayed intact as the Suryakumar Yadav-led side secured an unassailable 2-1 lead against Australia in the fourth T20I at Queensland on Thursday.
Since taking over from Rahul Dravid last year, Gambhir has reshaped the squad with a dynamic mix of youth and experience. Backed by a fearless approach, India has outplayed top cricketing nations with remarkable consistency over the past two years.
At Carrara Oval, India delivered a comprehensive 48-run win, showcasing dominant all-round cricket to maintain their spotless T20I series record — now extending to five consecutive unbeaten series. This impressive run began in July last year, when India swept Sri Lanka 3-0 in their backyard.
In Gambhir’s second assignment, India hosted Bangladesh in October and dominated the visitors with another 3-0 clean sweep. The momentum carried into the South Africa tour, where India took the four-match series 3-1, powered by Tilak Varma’s unbeaten centuries in the final two games.
Earlier this year, India hosted England for a white-ball series. Despite a brief hiccup in the third T20I, India wrapped up the five-match leg 4-1 with commanding wins in the opening and closing encounters.
After an eight-month T20I hiatus, India returned to the format in Australia. The first game in Canberra was washed out, and the hosts edged ahead in Melbourne. However, India stormed back to clinch the next two matches emphatically, sealing the series lead and preserving their unbeaten streak.
Beyond the shortest format, Gambhir’s leadership also guided India to an unbeaten Asia Cup 2025 triumph in September, reinforcing the team’s dominance across formats.
