Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday attended the 150th anniversary celebration of ‘Vande Mataram’, organized by the Department of Culture.

The Lieutenant Governor paid floral tributes to Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and visited an exhibition dedicated to India’s National Song. He said that Rishi Bankim Chandra strengthened the bond between Maa Bharti and her children, inspiring generations to fight for India’s freedom.

“Our unwavering commitment and dedication to the motherland will guide the nation toward its destiny of a Viksit Bharat. The young generation must remember that they are inheritors of this great civilization, and their active role in the nation’s progress and prosperity will be the most fitting tribute to Maa Bharti,” the Lt Governor said.

Marking 150 years since the creation of Vande Mataram, the year 2025 celebrates Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s timeless composition, penned on Akshaya Navami—November 7, 1875. The song first appeared in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of his novel Anandamath. Invoking the Motherland as a symbol of strength, prosperity, and divinity, Vande Mataram became a poetic expression of India’s awakening spirit of unity and self-respect, eventually transforming into a powerful emblem of national devotion.

The celebration featured the mass singing of the complete version of Vande Mataram, with enthusiastic participation from citizens across all sections of society.

The event was attended by Member of Parliament Shri Jugal Kishore Sharma; Rajya Sabha MP Er. Gulam Ali Khatana; Chief Secretary Shri Atal Dulloo; Principal Secretary (Home) Shri Chandraker Bharti; IGP Jammu Shri Bhim Sen Tuti; Principal Secretary (Culture) Shri Brij Mohan Sharma; Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shri Ramesh Kumar; along with administrative secretaries, senior officials, education heads, youth, and distinguished citizens.
Officials and participants from across Jammu and Kashmir also joined the UT-level commemorative event through virtual mode.
