ACS Higher Education Attends ‘Vande Mataram’ Commemoration as Chief Guest
Focus on Civic Responsibility, Patriotism, and Education’s Role in Nation-Building

SRINAGAR: The Government College of Education (GCOE), Srinagar, on Friday organized a district-level event to mark the 150th anniversary of India’s National Song, “Vande Mataram,” celebrating its historical, cultural, and patriotic legacy.

Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Higher Education Department, Shantmanu, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Among other dignitaries present were Director Colleges, Prof. Sheikh Aijaz Bashir; CEO Srinagar; SDM East; faculty members; and a large gathering of students.

The programme began with the mass singing of “Vande Mataram,” led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and live-streamed from the national event. This was followed by a flag hoisting ceremony led by the ACS and the rendition of the National Anthem, lending a solemn and patriotic start to the celebrations.

A musical performance by the Department of Music, Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar, in collaboration with the Cultural Committee of IASE, presented a soulful rendition of “Vande Mataram,” evoking a deep sense of emotion and national pride among the audience.

Addressing the gathering, ACS Shantmanu highlighted the importance of civic responsibility, patriotism, and education’s pivotal role in nation-building. He lauded the college for organizing such a meaningful programme that seamlessly linked education with India’s cultural and patriotic heritage.

Dr. Abdul Rashid Sheikh, HoD History, delivered an insightful lecture on the origin and significance of “Vande Mataram.” He traced its roots to Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s 1882 novel Anandamath, discussed its role in the freedom movement, and emphasized its continued relevance as a symbol of unity and national pride.

In her welcome address, Principal Dr. Seema Naz commended the institution’s commitment to fostering unity, integrity, and patriotism among future educators.

The event also featured a patriotic song performance by students Puran Bakshi and Muneer Shah (B.Ed 2nd Semester), celebrating India’s rich musical and cultural heritage. Their performances resonated with themes of unity and devotion to the motherland.

The audience also joined in the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national address, which emphasized national unity, cultural pride, and the enduring values of “Vande Mataram.” The address further inspired feelings of patriotism and collective pride among all attendees.
