Chennai: Director Krish Thirukumaran’s much-anticipated action entertainer Retta Thala, starring Arun Vijay in dual roles, is all set to hit theatres worldwide on December 18, the makers have officially announced.
The film has already generated significant buzz, as Arun Vijay will be seen portraying two contrasting characters in this intense action thriller.
In an earlier exclusive interview with IANS, Arun Vijay described the project as “a gripping action thriller that explores what happens when the shades of grey in every individual begin to surface simultaneously.”
The recently released teaser offered a glimpse of the high-octane drama and Arun Vijay’s dual performances. While it revealed one character named Malpe Upendra, the actor later confirmed that the second role he plays is Kali.
“We had only revealed one character’s name in the teaser. The other role I play is Kali,” Arun Vijay shared, adding that performing both physically demanding roles was especially challenging as he was recovering from a severe ACL tear sustained during his previous film Vanangaan.
Reflecting on that phase, he said, “Bala sir wanted me to have a flabby look for Vanangaan, so I didn’t work out for almost a year and a half. Then I injured my left knee, which made it impossible to train immediately. Director Krish Thirukumaran was extremely supportive — he allowed me time to recover and began shooting the dialogue portions first.”
Alongside Arun Vijay, the film features Siddhi Idnani, Tanya Ravichandran, Yogi Samy, John Vijay, Hareesh Peradi, and Balaji Murugadoss in pivotal roles.
Retta Thala also boasts a top-notch technical crew — music by Sam CS, cinematography by Tijo Tomy, editing by Anthony, and art direction by Arunshankar Durai. Action sequences are choreographed by P.C. Stunts, while costumes are designed by Kiruthika Sekar, with songs choreographed by Suren R and Bobby Antony.
The film promises to deliver a power-packed cinematic experience with Arun Vijay in one of his most challenging dual performances yet.
