Jammu: Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary on Sunday flagged off the Jammu Marathon, the first major public event organised by the force since Operation Sindoor.

The marathon, hosted by the BSF’s Jammu Frontier to mark the 60th Raising Day of the force, aimed to promote physical fitness and a drug-free lifestyle among the youth. The event saw enthusiastic participation from civilians, security personnel, and students alike.

According to the BSF, more than 6,000 participants from across the country registered for the event, which featured 42 km, 21 km, and 10 km races, along with a 5 km “Run for Fun.” Several foreign nationals, including runners from Kenya, also joined the marathon.

Many participants carried national flags and raised slogans in praise of India and the BSF.

“This is the first time BSF has organised a marathon in Jammu to encourage fitness and a drug-free India. When we adopt a healthy lifestyle, it strengthens our nation. The Prime Minister’s Fit India initiative will truly succeed when every citizen embraces fitness,” DG Chawdhary told reporters.

Referring to Operation Sindoor, he said the operation had been widely appreciated and helped reinforce public trust in the BSF.

“Many young people are now inspired to join the BSF. This marathon is a small but meaningful example of our efforts to stay connected with the public and promote a drug-free nation,” he added.

Chawdhary said the growing enthusiasm for joining the force reflects citizens’ increasing confidence in the BSF. “We will continue to serve the nation with greater commitment and zeal,” he asserted.

The BSF chief thanked participants who travelled from different parts of the country and expressed gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir government and local administration for their support.

Several Kenyan runners praised the BSF for the opportunity to participate. “I’m thrilled to be part of this great initiative. It’s my first visit to Jammu — the weather is pleasant, the atmosphere peaceful, and everything is wonderful,” one participant said.
