SRINAGAR: In a significant step towards strengthening sports infrastructure in the heart of Srinagar, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and ARI & Trainings, Satish Sharma today laid the foundation stone for the upgradation of the playfield at Radpora and adjoining playfields through the construction of seating tiers, at an estimated cost of ₹100 lakh.
The foundation stone was laid in the presence of MLA Khanyar Ali Mohammad Sagar, MLA Hazratbal Salman Ali Sagar, senior officers of the Youth Services & Sports Department, and local representatives.

He said the administration is focused on ensuring that every young athlete, especially from urban and downtown areas, has access to modern sporting facilities and opportunities.
Highlighting the project’s importance, the Minister said that the upgradation works—including construction of seating tiers, levelling, and allied amenities—will create improved spaces for youth engagement, helping them hone their sporting skills in a structured and supportive environment.
He further assured that the Youth Services & Sports Department will continue to provide robust support through enhanced infrastructure, coaching programmes, and tournaments, encouraging participation at both grassroots and professional levels.
Local residents, sportspersons, and youth from Radpora and adjoining areas welcomed the initiative, describing it as a transformative step towards making downtown Srinagar a vibrant hub of sports activity.
