Police Intensify Crackdown on OGWs Linked to J&K Nationals Based in PoK

Ramban/Jammu: Police in Ramban district have intensified their crackdown on sympathisers and overground workers (OGWs) associated with Jammu and Kashmir nationals based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), officials said on Monday.

In an effort to strengthen security across the region, police have enhanced surveillance on SIM card vendors and tightened security measures along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

“District Police Ramban, under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta, has intensified its ongoing crackdown on sympathisers and associates of Jammu and Kashmir nationals operating from Pakistan (JKNOPs), including their OGWs,” a police spokesperson said.

As part of these heightened security measures, cordon-and-search operations and special checking drives have been launched across Ramban, Banihal, and Gool subdivisions.

Action is being initiated against individuals or entities suspected of providing logistical or communication support to anti-national elements, the spokesperson added.

Police have also increased inspections of SIM card vendors to ensure strict compliance with verification norms aimed at preventing misuse of communication networks by criminal or anti-national elements.

Additionally, coordinated vehicular checks along the Jammu-Srinagar highway have been intensified, with Quick Response Teams of the Indian Army and CRPF deployed to further strengthen the security grid.

The district police reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found aiding or sheltering such elements. “Any person providing assistance or support to JKNOPs or their sympathisers will face stern action under relevant provisions of law,” the spokesperson warned.

The public has been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police unit or through emergency helplines.
