Jammu: Security has been intensified at the Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine, its base camp in Katra, and across Jammu city following Monday evening’s blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, officials said.
A high-intensity explosion tore through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro Station, killing at least eight people and destroying several vehicles. Twenty-four others were injured in the incident, which occurred during peak evening hours when the area was bustling with commuters, officials added.
“In view of the blast, security has been heightened in all vital areas of the Jammu region. Additional deployment and strict checks have been put in place at the Vaishno Devi shrine and the Katra base camp,” a police officer said.
Enhanced security arrangements have also been made in and around Jammu city, with increased patrolling along railway tracks and the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.
A high alert has been sounded across the region, and senior officers carried out late-night inspections to review preparedness. DIG Jammu-Kathua Shiv Kumar Sharma personally reviewed security arrangements in Jammu city on Monday night.
