Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday initiated legal proceedings to cancel the bail of over 30 individuals facing trial under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
A police spokesperson said the move is part of a broader strategy to dismantle the terror ecosystem in the Kashmir Valley. Legal action for bail cancellation has been launched in the districts of Shopian, Anantnag, and Baramulla.
“As part of sustained efforts to curb terrorism and ensure strict enforcement of the law, police have filed applications seeking bail cancellation in several UAPA cases,” the spokesperson said.
He added that the action followed reports indicating that a number of accused persons—who had earlier been granted bail by competent courts—were found violating bail conditions and re-engaging in activities threatening public order and security. These violations, he said, were thoroughly documented through continuous surveillance and periodic review of UAPA cases.
In Shopian, bail cancellation pleas have been filed against 13 accused, nine in Anantnag, and 11 in the Sopore area of Baramulla district, the spokesperson said.
Strict legal measures are being pursued to prevent such individuals from misusing legal concessions to carry out anti-national or unlawful activities, he added.
By moving for bail cancellation, police aim to ensure that the provisions of law are not exploited to undermine public order or national security, the spokesperson stated.
“This step underscores the police’s firm resolve against any attempt to revive or reinforce terror networks in the region,” he said, adding that bail is a legal concession, not an exemption from accountability. Any violation of court-imposed conditions, he warned, will lead to immediate legal action, including cancellation of bail and re-arrest.
