Massive Fire Engulfs Shops and Complexes in Doda’s Gowari Market; No Casualties Reported
Doda (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]: A massive fire broke out in Doda’s Bhalessa area early Tuesday morning, devastating parts of the Gowari Market. The blaze rapidly spread, engulfing seven shops, two commercial complexes, and several other establishments, officials said.
Fire and emergency services rushed to the scene and brought the flames under control after a two-hour-long operation. Five workers trapped inside were safely rescued. The local police and the Indian Army also joined the rescue efforts.
Doda SDM Arun Kumar Badhiyal and SHO Gandoh Faroq Ahmed supervised the operation and assured full assistance to those affected.
“Around 4:15 a.m., during a routine patrol, the police were alerted about the fire. The entire emergency apparatus — fire services, police, the Army, and local residents — was immediately mobilised. Unfortunately, around seven to eight shops and a four-storey shopping complex were gutted, but four individuals were rescued safely,” said SDM Badhiyal.
Authorities are assessing the extent of damage, and further details are awaited.
