Niagara [Canada]: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Canada, where both leaders reaffirmed the India–UK Vision 2035 to strengthen cooperation across key sectors.
In a post on X on Wednesday (local time), Jaishankar said, “Glad to meet UK Foreign Secretary @YvetteCooperMP on the sidelines of #G7 FMM in Canada today. Acknowledged the positive momentum in our relations and reaffirmed the India–UK Vision 2035 for further deepening cooperation across key areas.”
The India–UK Vision 2035 outlines a decade-long roadmap to advance bilateral ties through focused, time-bound collaboration in areas such as economy and growth, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate action, and education. The framework aims to build a robust intellectual partnership responsive to technological advancements, enhance cooperation in education and research, and nurture a skilled global workforce to address shared challenges and promote a sustainable future.
Jaishankar is in Canada from November 11 to 13 to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with Outreach Partners, at the invitation of Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
His participation underscores India’s commitment to working with international partners in tackling global issues and amplifying the voice of the Global South in multilateral forums. Jaishankar is also scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G7 event.
The meeting, hosted in the scenic Niagara region from November 11 to 12, brings together foreign ministers from G7 member countries — Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union — alongside outreach nations including India, Australia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, and Ukraine.
India’s invitation followed Anand’s visit to New Delhi last month, where she and Jaishankar discussed strengthening mutual confidence and cooperation. The visit also builds on the July meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney, which marked an important step toward resetting bilateral ties after a period of strain during 2023–24.
