Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha on Tuesday said that the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games is expected to be announced later this month. A formal declaration is likely on November 25–26 during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow.

Usha was speaking at DLF Avenue, Saket, where Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled the King’s Baton for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

“The announcement for the 2030 Commonwealth Games will come very soon, with the public announcement set for November 25–26 at the AGM in Glasgow. It will be a great inspiration for all our players,” Usha told reporters.

Last month, the Commonwealth Sport Executive Board recommended Ahmedabad as the host city for the centenary edition of the Games, pending final approval in Glasgow.

According to the Commonwealth Sport website, the recommendation came after a detailed evaluation of candidate cities based on technical preparedness, infrastructure, athlete experience, governance standards, and alignment with Commonwealth values.

Ahmedabad (India) and Abuja (Nigeria) were the final contenders under the organisation’s “Games Reset” framework, designed to promote innovation and long-term sustainability.

The 2030 Games will mark 100 years since the inaugural edition in Hamilton, Canada. The Executive Board also agreed to work with Nigeria to support its future hosting ambitions, including a possible bid for the 2034 Games.

India, which finished fourth in the medal tally at the 2022 Birmingham Games, has a strong legacy within the Commonwealth. Ahmedabad’s bid underscores the country’s ability to host major global sporting events and its commitment to the Commonwealth’s principles, the organisation noted.
