New York: In what is being viewed as a shift in stance, US President Donald Trump appeared to defend the H-1B visa programme, arguing that the US needs to attract skilled talent from around the world. He said a foreign investor “cannot pull people off an unemployment line who haven’t worked in five years and start making missiles.”
Responding to Fox News host Laura Ingraham’s question on whether H-1B visas would be a low priority for his administration in an effort to raise wages for American workers, Trump said, “I agree, but you also have to bring in talent… you don’t have certain talents, and people have to learn.”
