New Delhi: Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani has offered to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) through virtual mode after being summoned under FEMA for Friday.
A spokesperson for the 66-year-old businessman said Ambani has written to the agency, assuring “full cooperation” in its probe under the Foreign Exchange Management Act.
According to sources, the ED had initially asked Ambani to appear in person to record his statement. The case involves the Jaipur-Reengus Highway Project, where investigators suspect that about ₹100 crore was transferred abroad through hawala channels. Statements of several individuals, including alleged hawala operators, have already been recorded.
The spokesperson noted that the FEMA matter dates back 15 years to 2010 and concerns issues related to a road contractor. Reliance Infrastructure had awarded an EPC contract that year for the construction of the JR Toll Road, a domestic project with “no foreign exchange component.”
The project has been fully completed and has been with the National Highways Authority of India since 2021. The statement also clarified that Ambani was a non-executive director of Reliance Infrastructure from April 2007 to March 2022, and was never involved in its day-to-day operations.
