NEW DELHI: AIIMS Delhi has secured the top national ranking and the highest award for overall performance and institutional excellence at the DHR-ICMR Health Research Excellence Summit 2025, the institute announced in a statement.

The Summit, organised by the Department of Health Research (DHR) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), was inaugurated on Thursday by Union Minister of State for Health Anupriya Singh Patel. In her address, she highlighted India’s rising global stature in health research and innovation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, citing milestones such as MedTech Mitra, Rotavac and the COVID-19 vaccines. She also reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that scientific progress benefits people across all sections of society.

AIIMS Delhi received the Overall Performance Excellence (Gold) ranking for its strong performance across key areas, including research quality and output, innovation and translation, public-health impact, capacity building, and external collaborations and funding.

The institute’s consistent record of impactful publications, successful translation of lab discoveries into diagnostics and therapies, evidence-based policy contributions, mentoring of young researchers, and its ability to secure competitive grants have placed it at the forefront of India’s biomedical research ecosystem.

“This national recognition reaffirms AIIMS New Delhi’s leadership in integrating patient care, teaching and research, and in converting scientific discoveries into meaningful public-health outcomes,” the statement said.

AIIMS Director Dr. M. Srinivas congratulated the faculty, researchers, students and staff, calling the Gold ranking a collective achievement that reflects the institute’s unwavering commitment to excellence in science, service and innovation. He added that AIIMS Delhi remains dedicated to strengthening India’s health-research leadership and contributing to the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
