NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the NDA’s sweeping mandate in Bihar reflects the people’s endorsement of its work on development, women’s safety, good governance and welfare of the poor.

In posts on X, Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked with full commitment for Bihar over the last 11 years, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has steered the state out of the “darkness of jungle raj.”
The NDA was poised for a landslide, leading in nearly 200 of the 243 assembly seats, with the BJP emerging as the single largest party with an almost 95% strike rate. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan — comprising the RJD, Congress and three Left parties — struggled to cross the 35-seat mark.

Shah hailed the verdict, calling it a tribute to the spirit of the people of “Bihar Bhumi.” He said the mandate affirms public trust in the NDA’s commitment to development, women’s security, effective governance and the upliftment of the poor.

He added that every vote in Bihar reflects confidence in the Modi government’s stance against infiltrators and inaction by those who “support them for vote-bank politics.” The results, he said, signal that voter list purification is essential and that politics opposing it has no place — citing the Congress under Rahul Gandhi being pushed to the “bottom rung” in the state.

Calling the outcome a “victory for every Bihari” who aspires for a developed state, Shah said those linked to “jungle raj” or appeasement politics will no longer get the chance to exploit the system. He stressed that people now vote based on performance.

Shah congratulated Prime Minister Modi, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and all NDA leaders and workers, praising BJP cadres in Bihar for their tireless efforts.
He assured the people of Bihar — “especially our mothers and sisters” — that the NDA government under Modi will honour the mandate and fulfil its promises.
