CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government on Saturday suspended Amritsar (Rural) SSP Maninder Singh for allegedly failing to take decisive action against gangsters.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, while announcing the suspension, asserted that the state would not tolerate any leniency in efforts to curb gangster activities.
This marks a significant move by the AAP Government against an IPS officer. The ruling party has recently come under criticism from opposition groups over deteriorating law and order, amid rising cases of extortion and shootings linked to criminal gangs.
During the Tarn Taran bypoll campaign, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal had pledged to eliminate gangsterism from Punjab and warned those involved to leave the state within a week.
