JAMMU: A man accused in a drug-related case has been granted bail in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district after being fitted with a GPS anklet, officials said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Mukhtar Ahmed of Karmara in Poonch district, was granted bail by the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Udhampur.
“The device was attached on Friday in compliance with the court’s directions to enable real-time monitoring of his movements,” officials said.
According to police, Udhampur is the first district in the Jammu division to introduce GPS anklets for tracking narcotics offenders.
Ahmed was booked earlier this year at the Udhampur police station under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Section 111 (organised crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
