Jammu: Police on Saturday demolished a house and five commercial structures belonging to a detained narcotics smuggler in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police spokesperson said.

The demolition was carried out jointly by the police and the district administration at Narsoo village in Chenani, along the Jammu–Srinagar national highway. The accused has been identified as Makhan Din.

Calling it a “decisive action” against narco-criminals, the spokesperson said Din is a habitual offender and had been booked in a case at Rehambal police station last year. Owing to his repeated involvement in drug trafficking, he was detained under the PIT NDPS Act and is currently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.

According to police, investigations showed that Din had encroached on state land and illegally built a house and five commercial establishments worth several crores. These structures, allegedly constructed using drug money, were demolished as part of an ongoing crackdown to dismantle the financial networks of drug traffickers.

In a separate operation, a team from Majalta police station attached the property of another alleged drug peddler, Vikramjeet Kumar of Inderpuri in Amritsar, Punjab. During investigations in a case registered under the NDPS Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), it was found that Kumar owned a duplex house acquired through proceeds of the narcotics trade. The property, valued at over ₹1 crore, has been attached for further legal proceedings.

So far this year, Udhampur police have attached assets worth ₹11.62 crore in NDPS-related cases as part of efforts to make the district drug-free, the spokesperson added.
