Union Home Minister Amit Shah today paid tributes to tribal icon Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary, describing him as a source of national pride and inspiration. Shah highlighted Munda’s pivotal role in mobilising tribal communities against colonial rule and his enduring contribution to India’s freedom struggle.

Born in 1875 in present-day Jharkhand, Birsa Munda led the historic Munda Rebellion against British authority. His struggle for tribal rights and self-rule made him a symbol of resistance and empowerment for indigenous communities. He died in British custody at the young age of 25, leaving behind a legacy of courage and sacrifice.

Shah noted that Birsa Munda’s vision of justice and empowerment continues to inspire the nation. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving tribal heritage and advancing welfare initiatives that honor Munda’s ideals.

The birth anniversary of Birsa Munda is celebrated across the country as ‘Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas’ (Tribal Dignity Day), reflecting the collective respect for his contribution to India’s history and identity.
