Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting with senior police and civil administration officials following the accidental blast at the Nowgam police station that left nine people dead and 32 injured, officials said.
Held at Raj Bhavan, the meeting reviewed the measures taken to dismantle the terror ecosystem in Kashmir. Among those present were Chief Secretary Atal Dullo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Special DGP S. J. M. Gillani and ADG CID Nitish Kumar, officials added.
Sinha expressed deep anguish over the loss of lives and ordered a probe to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
The blast occurred around 11:20 pm on Friday while a specialised team was extracting samples from a large and “unstable” cache of explosives seized as part of an ongoing investigation into a ‘white-collar’ terror module. Most of the seized material had been kept in a secure open area at the Nowgam police station.
DGP Nalin Prabhat and MHA Joint Secretary (Kashmir) Prashant Lokhande said the incident happened as officials were handling samples from the explosives recovered in the Jaish-e-Mohammed ‘white-collar’ terror module case linked to Faridabad, Haryana.
