Animal Husbandry Minister Javid Dar on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the upcoming District Veterinary Hospital in Bandipora, marking a significant step toward improving veterinary care and livestock services in the region. The ceremony was attended by district officials, veterinary department staff, and local residents who welcomed the project as a long-awaited need.
Speaking at the event, Javid Dar said the new hospital would strengthen animal healthcare facilities and support farmers who depend heavily on livestock for their livelihood. He noted that Bandipora’s rural pockets, where dairy, sheep, and poultry farming are common, require modern veterinary infrastructure to ensure timely treatment and disease prevention.
Officials from the Animal Husbandry Department said the hospital will be equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, emergency care units, and specialized services for cattle, sheep, goats, and poultry. They added that the facility will also function as a training and extension centre to educate farmers about animal health, vaccination, and scientific rearing practices.
During the foundation ceremony, Javid Dar directed the executing agencies to ensure high-quality work and timely completion of the project. He emphasized that the government is prioritizing animal welfare and livestock development through improved infrastructure, better field support, and wider access to veterinary services.
Local residents and farmers expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying the district has long needed a dedicated veterinary hospital. They said the new facility would reduce travel time for treatment and help prevent losses caused by delayed medical care for livestock.
