The Jammu and Kashmir Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has identified nine ghee brands as substandard and unsafe for consumption following a detailed quality assessment. The samples were collected during routine market surveillance across various districts.

According to officials, laboratory analysis revealed that the flagged brands failed to meet mandatory purity and safety norms. Deviations were found in parameters such as fat content, adulteration levels, and compliance with food safety standards.

The FDA has initiated action against the manufacturers and distributors of the non-compliant brands, directing them to halt sale and distribution immediately. Further penalties and legal proceedings are also being examined as per the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Consumers have been advised to exercise caution, verify product labels, and report any suspected adulterated or substandard food items. The department reiterated its commitment to ensuring safe and high-quality food products in the market.
