Mendhar/Jammu, Nov 22: Two Army personnel—a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and an Agniveer—tragically lost their lives in separate incidents in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.
JCO Sajeesh K, from Kerala, was leading a search team in the Seri Mastan area of Behramgalla on Friday evening when he slipped while negotiating a steep slope and fell into a deep gorge. Army troops quickly launched a rescue operation and recovered his body, but he was declared dead at the spot. Following legal and medical formalities, the body was sent to his hometown for last rites.
The Army’s White Knight Corps paid tribute to the fallen soldier. “General Officer Commanding White Knight Corps and all ranks honor Subedar (Operator) Sajeesh K, who made the ultimate sacrifice while on an area domination patrol on Nov 21. Our thoughts are with his family in this difficult time,” the Army said.
In the second incident, an Agniveer died instantly after being accidentally shot by his own service rifle while on duty at a forward post in the Mendhar sector on Saturday. Officials said the circumstances of the shooting are under investigation, including whether it was accidental or intentional.
Authorities expressed condolences to the families of both personnel and assured support during this time. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of both incidents, while safety and precautionary measures are being reinforced to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
