Iqbal Tramboo has strongly opposed the proposed 20% hike in power tariffs, stating that the move will significantly increase the financial burden on the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the hike comes at a time when households are already struggling with rising prices of essential commodities, unemployment, and economic slowdown, making it difficult for many families to manage their monthly expenses.

Tramboo remarked that electricity is a basic necessity and increasing its cost by such a large margin will disproportionately affect low- and middle-income groups. He urged the authorities to review the proposal and consider the hardships faced by ordinary citizens before taking any final decision.

He further added that the government should focus on improving the efficiency of the power sector, reducing transmission losses, and curbing misuse instead of passing the burden onto consumers. Tramboo called for public-friendly policies that ensure electricity remains affordable and accessible to every household.

Appealing to the administration, he requested that any tariff-related reforms be introduced gradually and only after proper consultation with stakeholders to avoid causing distress to the public. He reaffirmed that safeguarding the welfare of the people should remain the top priority.
