National Conference senior leader Shameema Firdous has dismissed the attempts to link the recently proposed electricity tariff surcharge with the previous NC Government, calling the claims politically motivated and entirely misleading. She said certain political groups are deliberately trying to distort facts to divert public attention from the current administration’s shortcomings and the growing financial burden on consumers.
Firdous clarified that no such surcharge was introduced during the tenure of the NC Government and that the present hike is solely the responsibility of the existing regime. She said the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve honesty and transparency, not fabricated narratives designed to shift blame onto past governments.
She further said that instead of engaging in political blame games, the administration should prioritise improving power infrastructure, reducing transmission losses, and ensuring affordable electricity for all households. According to her, the rising tariffs have already strained the finances of common people, and misleading them with false accusations only deepens public resentment.
Reaffirming the NC’s commitment to public welfare, Shameema Firdous said her party has always advocated for consumer-friendly power policies. She urged the government to roll back the surcharge and adopt measures that provide relief to the people rather than increasing their hardships through unjustified tariff hikes.
