Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal on Saturday inaugurated the SAANS (Social Awareness and Actions to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully) campaign aimed at safeguarding children from pneumonia and reducing child morbidity in the district. The campaign focuses on early detection, timely treatment, and increased awareness among parents and caregivers about preventive measures.
Speaking at the launch, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of strengthening community health initiatives to ensure that pneumonia-related deaths in children are minimized. He emphasized coordinated efforts between health workers, ASHAs, Anganwadi staff, and community influencers to identify symptoms early and promote immediate medical intervention.
Health officials briefed participants on key components of the SAANS campaign, including spreading awareness about respiratory hygiene, promoting breastfeeding, ensuring complete immunization, and encouraging prompt care-seeking behavior when symptoms appear. They also stressed the need to train frontline workers to identify high-risk cases and facilitate timely referrals.
The Deputy Commissioner urged parents to remain attentive to signs of pneumonia such as fast breathing, chest indrawing, and persistent cough, and to seek medical help without delay. He reiterated the district administration’s commitment to improving child health indicators and ensuring access to quality healthcare for all.
