Bharatiya Janata Party leader Uma Bharti has warned that any attempt to construct a mosque in the name of Mughal emperor Babur will face consequences similar to the Ayodhya dispute. Speaking at a public gathering, she asserted that the sentiments of millions of devotees cannot be disregarded and that such efforts would inevitably provoke widespread opposition.
Bharti emphasized that the Ayodhya movement was rooted in faith and cultural identity, and cautioned against repeating historical mistakes. She said that the construction of religious structures should respect the beliefs of the majority community and avoid reigniting old conflicts.
Her remarks come amid ongoing debates over historical monuments and places of worship, with political and social groups voicing divergent views on heritage, faith, and national identity. The statement is expected to draw sharp reactions across the political spectrum.
