India-South Africa Ties Highlighted as PM Modi Returns Home

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned to New Delhi after completing a three-day official visit to South Africa. During the visit, he participated in the G20 Summit hosted in Johannesburg, marking the first time the summit was held on African soil.

Modi also attended the IBSA Leaders’ Meeting alongside Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. He emphasized the need for urgent reforms in global governance systems and proposed the creation of an IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance to share digital public infrastructure, including India’s UPI and CoWIN platforms.

In his engagements, the Prime Minister highlighted India’s commitment to strengthening South-South cooperation, advancing multilateral reforms, and promoting inclusive development. He underscored that the Global South must play a decisive role in shaping international discourse and building a more equitable world order.

The visit reaffirmed India’s strategic partnership with South Africa and Brazil, while reinforcing the importance of IBSA as a platform connecting three continents and three major democracies. Modi’s return marks the conclusion of a significant diplomatic outreach aimed at enhancing collaboration across critical sectors.
