Jammu, Nov 24: Secretary Transport, Avny Lavasa, has directed all concerned agencies to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of the Registered Vehicle Scrapping Policy across Jammu and its adjoining regions. She stressed that the policy is crucial for phasing out old and unfit vehicles, reducing emissions, and improving overall road safety.

Chairing a review meeting with senior officials of the Transport Department, Avny Lavasa called for close coordination between the Regional Transport Offices, enforcement units, and authorised scrapping facilities. She instructed officers to streamline procedures for vehicle inspection, deregistration, and safe disposal as per laid-down norms.

Lavasa emphasised the need to intensify awareness campaigns so that vehicle owners are well-informed about the benefits of voluntary scrapping and the incentives available under the policy. She said that promoting responsible vehicle disposal will support environmental protection and encourage the shift to cleaner and more efficient vehicles.

She also directed field units to submit periodic progress reports and ensure strict adherence to timelines and standards. The Transport Department aims to create a transparent, user-friendly system that enables smooth implementation of the scrapping initiative across the region.
