Jammu, Nov 25: A government official on Monday revealed that Jammu and Kashmir has nearly one billion tonnes of limestone reserves, highlighting the Union Territory’s significant mineral potential. The official said that these reserves offer vast opportunities for industrial development and revenue generation.

Authorities noted that systematic exploration and scientific mining practices are being encouraged to ensure optimal utilization of these resources while safeguarding the environment. The government is also focusing on transparent allocation and e-auctions of limestone blocks to attract credible investors.

The official added that the limestone reserves could play a key role in supporting construction, cement, and related industries, providing employment opportunities and boosting the local economy.

Efforts are underway to enhance geological surveys and promote sustainable mining practices, ensuring that the mineral wealth of the Union Territory benefits both industry and local communities.
