Shopian, Nov 27: Police carried out raids at multiple locations in south Kashmir’s Shopian district linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI). Officials confirmed that the searches were conducted as part of ongoing investigations into activities associated with the proscribed organisation.

Authorities stated that the raids targeted premises suspected of being used for unlawful operations. Documents and electronic devices were reportedly seized during the searches, which are now being examined for evidence of financial and organisational links.

Security officials emphasized that the action was aimed at disrupting networks that continue to operate despite the ban imposed on JeI. They added that the raids form part of a wider crackdown across Jammu and Kashmir to ensure compliance with legal restrictions on banned groups.

Police reiterated that measures will continue to prevent any attempts at regrouping or re-establishing banned organisations under different names. The operation in Shopian was described as precautionary and investigative, with further follow-up expected in the coming days.

The government has maintained that strict enforcement against proscribed outfits is essential to safeguard peace and stability in the region, and that law enforcement agencies remain committed to pursuing such cases under due process.
