Srinagar, Nov 27: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet in a major land fraud case, resulting in the judicial custody of two accused. The chargesheet was submitted before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Anantnag.

The accused have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, resident of Babapora Qazigund and then serving as Patwari Halqa Khandipahari Anantnag, and Mohammad Yousuf Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar, resident of Khandipahari, Harnag, Anantnag.

Investigations revealed that Patwari Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat conspired with the complainant’s brothers to fraudulently mutate land under Khewat Nos. 05 and 07 in Khandipahari Harnag. Despite a status quo order issued by the court and reflected in revenue records, he allegedly concealed material facts, facilitated the illegal sale of a portion of the land, and prepared fraudulent mutations.

Officials further stated that co-accused Mohammad Yousuf Dar procured a forged gift deed purportedly executed by his mother. Witnesses shown in the document later denied any knowledge of the transaction.

The complainant also alleged that the Patwari demanded money in exchange for revenue extracts, and that repeated complaints to senior revenue authorities failed to elicit action. Following an enquiry, the allegations were found prima facie true, leading to the registration of FIR No. 45/2015 under sections 420, 468, 471, 120-B RPC and 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir.

After completion of the investigation, the chargesheet was filed for judicial scrutiny. The Special Judge subsequently remanded both accused to judicial custody.
