Awantipora, Nov 28: Police busted a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) hideout during a search operation in the Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and arrested one person linked to the outfit. Officials said the operation was launched after specific intelligence inputs indicated militant activity in the outskirts of the town.
A joint team of Awantipora Police, Army and CRPF carried out a cordon-and-search operation in a village in the jurisdiction of Police Station Awantipora. During the searches, a hideout suspected to be used by JeM operatives was located in an abandoned structure.
Police said incriminating materials, including organisational documents, communication devices and items used for logistical support, were recovered from the spot. “One individual involved in facilitating the hideout and providing support to the terror outfit has been apprehended,” a police spokesperson said.
The arrested person has been taken into custody for questioning, and police said more arrests are likely as investigation progresses. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora.
Security forces said the operation marks another step towards dismantling the remaining militant infrastructure in the region. Searches in the area continued for several hours to rule out the presence of any other suspects linked to the module.
