Jammu, Nov 28: The Congress on Wednesday questioned the demolition of a journalist’s house in Jammu, alleging misuse of authority and demanding clarity on who is taking decisions within the Jammu Development Authority (JDA). Senior Congress leaders said the incident has raised serious concerns regarding transparency and governance, and asked whether the region is being run by an elected government or by “hidden hands” operating behind the scenes.

Addressing reporters, Congress spokespersons termed the demolition of the residence of a Jammu-based journalist as arbitrary and vindictive. They said the action appeared to have been carried out without due process and in violation of established norms. The party alleged that selective targeting of individuals critical of the administration reflects a worrying trend aimed at silencing independent voices.

Citing public anguish over the episode, Congress leaders said the JDA must explain the circumstances under which the demolition took place, including whether proper notices were issued and whether the matter was examined legally before action was executed. They demanded that the administration disclose who authorised the operation and under what mandate.

“The key question is simple,” Congress leaders said. “Who is running the JDA—an accountable elected government or hidden hands influencing decisions from behind curtains? People deserve transparency, and journalists must not be intimidated for doing their job.”

The party called for an impartial inquiry into the demolition and urged the government to ensure that administrative agencies are not used as tools of harassment. They said democratic institutions must function within the rule of law and respect fundamental rights, including freedom of the press.
