Srinagar, December 1 — A 36-year-old woman who attempted self-immolation at Pratap Park in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Saturday has succumbed to her injuries at SMHS Hospital, officials confirmed.

Eyewitnesses said the woman poured petrol over herself and set herself ablaze inside the park, triggering panic among visitors. Locals rushed to extinguish the flames before police shifted her to hospital in critical condition.

Hospital sources reported that she had suffered extensive burn injuries and was placed under intensive medical care. Despite sustained efforts by doctors, she passed away two days later.

Authorities said her identity is being withheld for privacy reasons. Police have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The tragic episode has shocked residents, highlighting the need for greater awareness and support systems to prevent such acts of self-harm.
