Mumbai, December 1 — Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty opened on a strong note today, scaling fresh lifetime highs before easing later in the session.

The 30-share BSE Sensex surged 452 points to touch a record 86,159.02 in early trade, while the NSE Nifty advanced 122 points to hit a new peak of 26,325.80. Bank Nifty also crossed the 60,000 mark for the first time, opening at 60,102.10.

Market experts attributed the rally to robust GDP growth figures, strong buying in metal, auto, and PSU bank stocks, and positive global cues. Heavyweights including Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Adani Ports, L&T, and Sun Pharma led the gains.

However, FMCG and select IT counters such as ITC, Titan, Bajaj Finance, and Tech Mahindra witnessed selling pressure, trimming overall momentum by midday.

Analysts said the record highs reflect investor confidence in India’s growth story, though caution remains over global market volatility and sectoral rotation.
