New Delhi, Dec 01: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and assured him of India’s continued support under Operation Sagar Bandhu, in the wake of Cyclone Ditwah that has caused widespread devastation across the island nation.
During the call, Prime Minister Modi expressed his heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives and extensive damage triggered by the cyclone. He conveyed that the people of India stand in firm solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka in this hour of need.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake thanked Prime Minister Modi for India’s swift response and timely assistance. He appreciated the deployment of rescue teams, relief material, and medical support under Operation Sagar Bandhu, which has been critical in reaching distressed communities.
According to officials, India’s humanitarian mission is being coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs under the leadership of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, with operational support from the Indian Navy and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Relief consignments have already been dispatched to Colombo and affected northern districts.
Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed that India, in line with its Vision MAHASAGAR and its role as the region’s First Responder, will continue to extend all necessary assistance as Sri Lanka undertakes rehabilitation efforts, resumes public services, and works toward restoring livelihoods across impacted regions.
The conversation between Modi and Dissanayake has been welcomed by officials and observers as a reaffirmation of India’s commitment to regional cooperation and humanitarian solidarity in South Asia.
