Washington DC, Dec 02: India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, held a series of fruitful conversations with American lawmakers this week, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and advancing cooperation in key sectors. The meetings took place on Capitol Hill and were attended by senior members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Ambassador Kwatra met Senator Bob Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Senator Todd Young, a leading voice on Indo-Pacific affairs. Discussions centered on expanding defense collaboration, enhancing trade opportunities, and deepening people-to-people exchanges between India and the United States.

In the House of Representatives, Kwatra engaged with Congressman Gregory Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, who represents a large Indian-American constituency. Lawmakers expressed appreciation for India’s role as a strategic partner and highlighted the importance of continued dialogue on regional security and economic growth.

Ambassador Kwatra emphasized India’s commitment to working closely with the United States on global challenges, including climate change, technology partnerships, and counter-terrorism. “Our conversations reaffirm the shared values and mutual interests that bind India and the United States together,” he said.

Lawmakers welcomed India’s proactive engagement, with Senator Menendez noting that “India’s leadership in the Indo-Pacific is vital to ensuring stability and prosperity.” Congresswoman Jayapal added that the Indian-American community plays a crucial role in strengthening ties between the two democracies.

The meetings are seen as part of ongoing efforts to build momentum ahead of the next round of the India-US Strategic Dialogue, scheduled for early 2026. Officials from both sides confirmed that the discussions were constructive and paved the way for deeper cooperation across multiple domains.
