Sopore, Dec 05 (KNO): Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, on Friday appealed to residents to adopt judicious use of water in view of the acute scarcity gripping the district. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a key meeting in Sopore, DC Sherpa said that the situation has worsened as major sources like the Shrunz line from Shrunz fall, which earlier flowed at 200–300 cusecs, now register below 10 inches due to deficient rainfall and snowfall over the past two to three years.

“This crisis is not confined to Baramulla alone but is affecting the entire region,” DC Sherpa noted, adding that the administration is working on immediate measures to ease the burden. He announced that two additional water tankers will be procured using the district mineral fund to bolster supply in Sopore town until the AMRUT scheme becomes operational.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that community cooperation is vital at this stage. He urged citizens to avoid wastage, adopt conservation practices, and support the administration’s efforts to manage the crisis. “Judicious use of water is the only way to ensure equitable distribution and prevent further strain on limited resources,” he said.

Authorities assured that steps are being taken to augment supply and mitigate hardship, while reiterating their commitment to addressing the situation and ensuring essential needs are met across all affected areas.
