Srinagar, Dec 6: Air travel in Jammu and Kashmir faced major disruption on Saturday as 16 flights were cancelled at Srinagar International Airport due to operational issues affecting IndiGo Airlines. The cancellations left hundreds of passengers stranded and caused widespread inconvenience across the Valley.

Airport officials confirmed that IndiGo’s internal crisis led to multiple cancellations and delays, impacting both domestic and connecting flights. Passengers expressed frustration over last-minute notifications and inadequate arrangements, with many forced to reschedule travel plans at short notice.

Authorities at Srinagar Airport said they are coordinating with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to monitor the situation and ensure compliance with passenger rights. They added that other airlines were also affected by cascading delays, though IndiGo accounted for the majority of cancellations.

Travel industry representatives warned that the disruption comes at a critical time, with winter tourism and business travel peaking in the region. They urged the airline to restore normal operations swiftly and provide adequate compensation to affected passengers.

IndiGo management has acknowledged the operational challenges and assured corrective measures are being taken to stabilize services. Officials emphasized that reliable air connectivity is vital for Jammu and Kashmir, particularly during the winter season when road travel is often restricted.
